Light vs Dark – Styled Wedding Photo Shoot

The idea behind this collaboration was to work with opposites! It was such a wonderful experience to work with two such defined styles — Light & Dark.

The idea of the shoot was to show how versatile and adaptable we can all be as suppliers, and represent not just the classic wedding style, but the alternative too. The yin and the yang!

 Just because someone may have seen one of the suppliers create a certain kind of dress, or stationery in a particular style, doesn’t mean that the supplier is ONLY able to provide that kind of design. The beauty of working in the wedding industry is that we have our clients in mind, and we’re more than happy to tailor our product to the wants and needs of the couple in question, because every couple is different. Really, it’s why we do what we do.

Let me tell you about the suppliers I worked with on this shoot, and show you the transformations!

The suppliers involved provided their goods for both the Light and the Dark. We were able to shoot at the beautiful location of The Orangery at Mount Edgecumbe.

For the Light part of the shoot, the inside of the building was used, because of its incredible natural lighting and idyllic setting.

For the Dark, I shot outside the building, setting the scene against the greenery and woodland. Such contrasting looks, but both created such a romantic, memorable feel. The idea was to show how classic and alternative wedding themes can be mixed and matched – there are no rules!

Stationary

Dearly Beloved provided the stationery — watercolour style in deep, blue hues for the Dark, and soft, dreamy turquoise for the Light. It was great to see how a simple colour choice is able to completely change the feel, whether it be the initial invitation or menu upon the table at the reception.

Cakes

The cakes were provided by The Little Lark Cake Company, who create elegant bespoke wedding cakes — and this shoot was no exception!

Bold, brave colours with decorative flowers for the Dark, whereas the cake for the Light featured more of a dripped icing effect in a subtle peach tone, adorned with a classic rose. Two such different cakes by the same company!

Flowers & Decor

Flowers, provided by The Secret Garden Flowers, were the perfect addition to set off just how different these two looks are. An edgy bouquet for the alternative Dark bride, and more of a fresh set of blooms for the Light.

Sequin tablecloths were from The Pretty Accessory, and showed just how versatile they are by working so perfectly atop both type of table.

Dresses, Hair & Make-up

Gemma (MUA) and April (hair styling) transformed our model, wearing both dresses from Rock The Frock (provided by The Wedding Hub, Plymouth).

For the Dark, the model teamed the white dress – with its detailed bodice and layered skirt – with a leather jacket and black belt, to give it a grungy edge. A smokey eye, retro-style red lip and quirky quiff hairstyle later — the perfect example that brides really don’t have to be conventional anymore!

The look for the bride in the Light shoot was far softer, with the white detailed dress, accents of pastel colours such as the soft pink lipstick, and elegant updo with subtle curls.

Part of working closely with clients is ensuring the essence of them is intertwined in the wedding itself, such as the day-to-day style of the bride. Seeing the model transform into two completely different brides was fabulous – and shows it is indeed possible!

Alternative weddings, breaking the mould of traditional colour and style, are on the rise and so we decided to show how we all fit into that. However, there is a reason why couples choose the classic style again and again — it is the epitome of romance!

Either way, despite our personal preferences or what we’re known for, it is certainly true that these suppliers are brilliant at offering customers a range of choices from all they have to offer, and it was such fun to see it all come together.
